Offshore Navigation Planning Course
In a response to the Northern Hemisphere offshore sailing season being affected by the outbreak of COVID-19, I have decided to run a series of online webinars courses to help sailors build up a detailed navigation and performance plan for their next race.
The aim of the course is to think about the information that is available to you, both before and during a race, and to use these to create a navigation and performance plan that gives you a head start.
We will look at a variety of tools and resources that are out there, from the freely available to the subscription based. This will not be a course on how to use Adrena or Expedition to create a weather route, this will be about gathering information so that you are better prepared and can better question the solutions that computer software delivers.
The plan is to look at 3 RORC Races; the Cervantes Trophy, Myth of Malham and North Sea Race, which will take us through to the start of June 2020. Each race offers different navigational and strategic challenges, which allows us to target different areas over the 3 races.
I plan to split each race into 2 online sessions, with some homework in between;

I plan to split each race into 2 online sessions, with some homework in between;
- SESSION 1 (ONLINE): One week before the race start we will meet online to review the Sailing Instructions and discuss some of the areas to be looking at for the up coming race.
- (HOMEWORK): 3 days before the race start, submit to me your pre-race plans in either PowerPoint, Word or PDF format.
- SESSION 2 (ONLINE): Day of the race, we will meet again online to review the plans and pick out the best bits so we can all learn more and see how the race would unfold.
Example plans and resource links will be uploaded nearer to the start of the course
